Grayan is well situated for all your holiday needs. Within a 5 minute walk there is a convenience store, where you can buy fresh bread and the usual vitals, larger supermarkets are available in Soulac, Lesparre and Vendays. The Relax Cafe/Bar offers crazy golf and wifi along with quality food and drink. The bar is fun and lively and has regular 'live' music evenings in the summer and is popular with the locals as well as with tourists. The Relax is conveniently positioned within easy walking distance from Les Mirabelles and the Blue Fish. The nearest petrol station is a 5 minute drive away. The village also offers a Post Office and Library. The beautiful beach of Le Gurp is approximately 5 kilometres away. The facilities at Le Gurp are first and foremost a beautiful sandy beach as you look to your left and to your right you can see sand and sea stretching as far into the distance. Far out into the sea on your right you have views of Cordouan Lighthouse. Le Gurp has ample parking and offers a few bars and restaurants along with a surf shop, a surf school, small supermarket, bakery and laundrette. Approximately 3 kilometres from the property is the Les étangs de la Barreyre which is a fishing lake where you can while away some peaceful time admiring the scenery and wildlife along with the fishing. Rod hire is available. There is also a small pottery which offers individual pieces made by local artisans which is where you may find a 'must have' reminder of your holiday. In addition Grayan boasts a local honey producer and his wares can be bought from the market at St Vivien.
Local Towns and Villages
Montalivet is a lively holiday resort. In addition to the beach, the sea and a selection of bars and restaurants it has a quad bike track and paintballing centre. It is however best known for its lively daily market, where you can pick up local produce as well as clothes, toys etc. By far the liveliest day is Sunday where it is 'the' meeting place for many locals partaking of an apero and oysters prior to a late lunch. Vensac is a small village which still 'dresses' the village square with a marionette display. Here are also 2 small wine producing vinyards where you can buy wine direct from the producer. St Vivien is a local working town. It has a lovely local market on a Wednesday morning as well as a fishmonger, butcher and bakery. L'Amelie is a lively but small holiday resort offering quiet beaches along with the usual bars and restaurants. In addition there is a more 'upmarket' restaurant for those special occasions. During the summer it has a weekly night market and hosts live music nights, the music being shared by a number of local bars with dancing in the street (a cul-de-sac) causing a wonderful carnival atmosphere. L'Amelie is perfectly situated for watching the most wonderful sunsets. Soulac is the largest local town and offers shopping, eateries and bars. It boasts a long flat promonade for strolling. The main shopping street is pedestrianised, making it safe for children. It has a daily indoor market for local produce and most days during the summer has a street market. Soulac also boasts a Casino, a nightclub and has a railway station offering regular services to Lesparre and Bordeaux. The beach has childrens play areas and is supervised by lifeguards throughout the summer. Horse riding and bicycle hire are also available. There is a large fishmarket providing an outlet for the excellent locally caught fish and seafood. Port Medoc is a recently built marina which is home to some beautiful boats, why not take a stroll, or sit in one of the cafes relaxing with a coffee just listening to the sounds of the rigging on the boats 'singing' debating the merits of one type of boat over another.
